spring babies

Ducklings_26042006_2This morning my little black Cochin hen, Inky, presented me with these downy surprise cuties.  Thirty-five days ago she decided she wanted to hatch some eggs... so I gave her a few of the duckies' eggs to set just so she had something to sit on.  I never really expected them to hatch!  But here they are at less than twenty-four hours old!  They will probably weigh at least 12 pounds when they grow up.  Their hatching momma, Inky, weighs about twenty-two ounces!

I wish I could get a better photo!  I haven't been able to get my camera to cooperate for weeks now and I can't figure out why.

They are adorable.

Awwww. Congrats. They are precious!

They are so sweet!

Congratulations Lulu, you are the best 'god-mother' around... Lucky Inky that she had you to take care of her urges... I see 'duckling' paintings in the future...

They are so sweet! I don't think that there are many things more adorable that little baby ducks! Inky is a lucky mama! :)

sweet...just sweet.

Oh my...what a lovely way to start the day...thank you for sharing these babies with us! Will your pond be big enough for them Lulu or will they find a home elsewhere on your land?
Maybe it's time for a new camera battery? Course I think they the camera is supposed to tell you when it's time...

Oh such a sure sign of spring! As my daughter would say "Mama, the chicken had 'ducklins', I thought they were supposed to have 'chicklens'...
Some verbal mistakes we don't have the heart to correct! Now excuse me while I help my daughter put on her 'tylons' and then read her a story about 'crockadielins'...
:o)

How sweet!

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

How sweet. They look so soft and cozy together.

How adorable! they are so cute!

aren't they precious. yesterday we were in busy traffic driving to our grand daughter's baptism. well, all of a sudden traffic was stopped dead! we couldn't figure out what happened....until we saw a little duck and her 8 ducklings making their way across 6 lanes of busy traffic......sooooo adorable:) everyone had a smile on their face as i looked at the occupants of nearby automobiles...it was a GOOD THING:)

Little fluffy cuties, they must be very inspiring for your paintings!
